We are proud to say that Santa Marta was founded 500 years ago and we celebrate its anniversary with great joy and celebration. Likewise, we do not forget that Colombia gained independence from the Spanish empire 211 years ago, with the collective memory of the cry for independence on July 20, 1810. This commemoration also makes us feel proud of our Colombian exponents who have excelled in various fields, standing out in history. Some of these references are very important for the history of Colombia and their importance is reflected in different areas.
In the musical field we find a great artist from our Atlantic coast, Shakira, recognized as one of the most popular Latin singers in the world, which is reflected in the sale of more than 65 million albums in the world and her artistic performance in different events with wide recognition worldwide. Shakira has become a character of Colombian pride and was the door for the Colombian music industry to expand abroad. Similarly another very important person is Egan Bernal cyclist who has left high the name of this beautiful country in different competitions worldwide; Another person who stands out is Juan Manuel Barrientos who became the first Colombian chef to get a Michelin Star, has his restaurant Elcielo founded in Medellin 14 years ago. From Santa Marta we can highlight an artist who over the years has received numerous awards worldwide and nationally is a Samarian pride, his name is Carlos Vives.
Among the important Colombian characters we find the writer and winner for his book 100 years of solitude to the 'Nobel prize of literature' Gabriel Garcia Marquez who is of great importance also for Santa Marta since this writer was born in Aracataca a municipality located in the department of Magdalena, being Santa Marta the capital of Magdalena has been influenced by the currents of magical realism that the author used in many of his great works. So we can mention that Santa Marta apart from having a great history in its streets also transmits through it a magic that transports us to ancient colonial times, immerses us in a unique experience in the streets where yellow butterflies fly and flowers fall from the trees leaving traces of unparalleled colorful paths, connects us with nature and the beauty of Colombian culture and takes us to enchanting places.
